PJ. I have been in contact with DIRECTLINE about car insurance, my wife spoke to them, firstly, they said they cannot give me car insurance because I only have an international driving licence, is this true??? and I can't read the papers.
They said I need a Japanese driving licence??? I am from the UK and will get my Japanese licence end of this year...
I have all the correct documents. Is this typical of Japanese companies....

I don't know if it is typical (or a legal requirement), but why wait until the end of the year to get your license? It should be very easy for you to convert your UK license to a Japanese license.
