    Reckless
    Summer of 69
The "Waking up the neighbors" tour

After Celine Dion, one of the biggest selling Canadian musicians of all time (sadly).

    Default too loud Mcloud

Ahh, yes Chilliwack.. they of that lyrical wonder " A gone gone gone she been gone so long she been gone gone gone so long",

And who could forget "four men in a rock n roll band, fly at night and in the mornin' they land, fly at night till they're satisfied, etc etc".

Now, if we talk about Chilliwack, then we have to bring in Rush or, for that matter, dare I say (DARE! DARE!) TROOPER!

Went back home this summer and saw Trooper at the Vancouver Island Exibition Saturday night round-up. Sigh, a shadow of their former selves.

Takes me back to the 70's and skateboarding down my block, saving money to buy a Camero. Thanks Mr. Solution

    54-40
    Northern Pikes
    Spirit of the West
    Pursuit of Happiness
    Boys Brigade
    Platinum Blonde
    The Spoons
Martha and the Muffins (and M&M)
    Parashute Club
    Honeymoon Suite
    The Stampeeders
    The Box
    Loverboy

    and from the 90's
    Moxy Fruvious
    Skydiggers
    Bourbon Tabernacal Choir

Can anyone add to the list?

    Default umm....

Yes, no musical talent. You are spot on. I mean really, when you think about

    Diana Krall
    Oscar Peterson
    Leonard Cohen
    Gordon Lightfoot
    The Band
    Steppenwolf
    Nelly Furtado
    Rush
    The Guess Who
    Sum 41
    Tragically Hip
    Neil Young,
    Joni Mitchell
    Alanis Morisette
    The Barenaked Ladies
    Great Big Sea
    Avril Lavigne
    Nickelback
    Sarah Maclachlan

it's obvious that Canada has really nothing going for it, musically. And, with it's huge population of 30 million (what...California-ish size), it's even more surprising that no music comes from there. Must be the cold winters.

    Thanks Douglas,
half of that list gave me a really good laugh. I had forgotten how much musical crap had come from Canada.

In non-english speaking countries people do not know any of these names and do not care...except alanis Moriset, Avril, Celine Dione - they are known I think.

glad to be of help Varus,

of course, to even brighten your day more, I should add the incomperable

    Corey Hart
Bachman Turner Overdrive (taking care of business--everyday!)

    Tom Cochrane and Red Ryder

and of course, Shania Twain (shiver shiver...)

Varus, give "I wear my sunglasses at night" a hum--it's infectious.

well, I'll give you that for the most part Bacu...but hey, Corey Hart played in Shizuoka just 8 years ago--it was huge!! Didn't see him though...couldn't get tickets..

But, Oscar Peterson? Leonard Cohen? Icons the world over Bacu. Peterson alone is a bloody legend--the guy can fill a hall from Moscow to Johannseberg if he wants.

Maybe your not a jazz fan though--fair enough. I couldn't pick a Morisette song from a Lavigne one though if I tried.

I'd better send you a Trooper Song as an attachment..You'll come around

Well, I ain't Canadian so I think that I can speak impartially in saying that I'm not sure that Nickelback and Avril Lavigne belong on the same list as Neil Young and Leonard Cohen, whatever the list is, but I am surprised that no-one has mentioned The Arcade Fire, who released one hell of a debut album, Funeral. I saw them at Summer Sonic last summer and their performance was the highlight of the festival. One of the greatest bands around at the moment and definitely a finer export than the likes of Nickelback.
Man, I would want my nickle back if I paid even that much for one of their frickin' records.

I like Bulgarian and serbian songs and greek... I prefer the songs are in some language I can understand, because music is ok but the words are important for me...I do not understand english songs very well. It is hard to catch the English words even if I listen very carefully many times.

Yes, please send me a good song...

Last year when I was going to Thailand I became friends with one thai group in the Narita express and then in the plane!!! They gave me their CDs and we write emails to each other. They have been to a festival in Japan to play. They were very good.

They play in Saxophone, Victory Monument and RCA in bangkok, very nice.

Also I like thai group Taxi.

I think you have Brian Adams confused with Bryan Adams.

And speaking of Corey Hart, I went to school with his cousin. That's my claim to Canadian fame.

Thanks bob, that made my morning..still chuckling over that one--I like the Henny Youngman style stuff. Nice and hammy. I'll use it today with my co-worker --he loves Nickelback (of course, I'll steal it from you and make it look like I told it impromptu). Yeah, I heard them the other day (from aforementioned cow-worker) whilst at the gym. Retch. Belong in the Canadian Hall of Shame along with Corey and Platinum Blonde as far as I'm concerned.

I don`t think that it is fair to say that Bryan Adams has not had a "successful" career. I mean, I don't like Jeffrey Dahmer that much, but I don't think I can go around saying that his career as a serial killer/cannibal/necrophiliac was a complete failure. I mean, he killed 17 people. Credit where credit`s due. Or something like that.

    Bee Gees

    Oliva Newton John

    Kevin Bloody Wilson

    Little River Band

I could go on but why bother? It should be obvious to all that Australia is so much better than Canada in every possible way.

I don't know if the Bee Gees and Olivia Newton John were exactly Australian, or if they just went to live there for a few years, but anyway, I guess that`s splitting hairs. You left out Nick Cave, INXS and Kylie though.

No Jesus, actually Canadians know a lot about the world around us, other countries persepectives, global issues, whether Bryan Adams is Canadian, whether hospitals should be free (for childern and the poor elderly at least!)

It is only large swaths of America that are myopic. Unable to find Canada or China on the map, unable to turn off Fox news and the Super Bowl, unable to get beyond their nationalism and narrow view of the world, unable to accept that they are wrong in killing tens of thousands of people, unable to see that their government doesnt care about them.

We indeed are lacking in musical exports, but see my thread "Canadian troops battle 10Ft Pot Plants" on what we are doing for the "War on Terror".

and we do have a sense of humor,
and we didnt go to Iraq...
    and I will stop now...
