Interesting to see you laugh at a little bite-sized piece of casual racism there Ewok. But a question for you: if the Japanese are so stupid, why do you bother to study their martial arts anyway? Or are you another hypocrite who comes on here to spout your racist crap and then goes and bows in front of your sensei?

Actually, you missed the point. Many foreigners replace dougi, renshugi, keikogi, karategi, etc with simply "gi", which means nothing. Its a case of lazy foreigners not using Japanese properly leading to confusion when they try and talk to Japanese. Nothing at all to do with Japanese being stupid, more to do with stupid foreigners, and he merely proved my point by saying that Japanese people do not understand the meaning of "gi".

Virus, you are just not on the same level as me intellectually. In fact, in no way could you possibly be said to be in my league. You are not even on the same planet. You can ignore me, but I will not just disappear because a few racists tell me to. I think you should know that. Just pray that you never come across me in real life. Just write your silly CRACKPOT books and don't try and play at the big boy's games. If I go to the dark side, you just can't live with me.

There is no colour system for "karate". It depends on the style. Shotokan does not even have this Boza colour.

On my certificate it is written 9th level (kyu kyu).
I did not go to karate for 3 weeks. This week I went to the dojo and the karate sensei shouted at me why I missed the practice for so long. He ordered me to go next week too. I told him "maybe". He was shocked. I think the next level is far away if at all.

    Thanks all for congrats...

    Default Aikido class

    Hi everyone.

Thanks for the info. I see there have been some interesting posts since I've asked my original question...Anyways, I enrolled in Aikikai Foundation Aikido World HQ in Higashi-Shinjuku. Apparently it's a very famous place. I am taking a beginner's class with a friend.

So, it looks interesting and I start next week. I'll keep you posted with how I find this particular martial art. Wish me luck!! Sensei looks a little scary...

    Hi Miss Mylene,

that`s the big factory place you entered there. Yes, it is famous, but I would have advised against it (I think I did).
First off, there is not one "sensei" there but a whole bunch of them. He will not get to know you or pay any particular attention to you. How is your Japanese? If non-existant, you `ll just have to follow along.
The dojo is extremely crowded, so you`ll always have to be wary about bumping into people.
I still think Chris` place which I mentioned before would have been much more suitable for you.
Well, its your decision. Keep us updated on how it is going...

I am laughing my *ss off about this Kyokushin kata here:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LbbBtJyxTpQ

This is the most ridiculous thing I have ever seen (heard). How do you call this? The Kyokushin Croak of Death?
Does it help to drink Boza before?

    Bacn, please enlighten us...

Why? That`s not the sharpest kihon ippon in the world, but it looks OK (to me) as a demonstration. What is it you find so clownish about it?

Meanwhile, where is Bacn? I'd love to hear more about the Croak of Death (s-n-i-g-g-e-r)

(I can`t write that word without the hyphens -- what is this? PC censorship gone berserk?)

its garbage hand-by-your-waist stuff. who the hell would put their hand down there in a self defense situation? they'd get KOed by a combination. Combinations are probably illeagal to throw in that style

It is kihon ippon, not self-defense. You know, it is better to know what you are looking at, when commenting...

Fwiw, I am sure also the croaking stuff in Kyokushin has a meaning, but it still sounds hilarious. Bacn, where are you?

    Default So sad

I have been doing martial arts for most of my life and when I see ____ like this cwell.

Anyway after having taken a few different martial arts over the years I came to the conclusion that most martial arts are far from complete. Unfortunately martial arts is like religion to some.

Some of these martial arts are a poor excuse for self-defense. There comes a time when you have to stop dancing. Incapacitating the opponent efficiently while maintaining economy of movement is lacking in most martial arts. Most martial arts have far to many movements (most of them unnecessary and ineffective) as a result the student learns many movements and is proficient at none. Which explains why so many bar fights end badly for black belts who are confident in their pseudo religion.

How many black belts have you seen get their derriere minced in a street fight? Please do tell. They do make interesting stories.

Predictable. I suspect the nutter started to believe his own BS, seeing how he could bowl over his followers with ki power.

You can turn the question around: How many non-black belts do you see successfully slugging it out at Pride and K1?

As far as I know, most everyone there has practised one ore more established martial arts. Can you list the street-brawlers with no formal martial arts background?
I guess Bob Sapp and Akebono might fall in that category... anyone else?

That may be, however the people in K1 and pride are the cream of the crop (hardly your averadge black belt).

    Dear Derukugi,

Tonight I have dinner with my karate sensei so I will ask him about the croak of death kata and I will learn it.

I am at a crossroad, I do not know whether to coninue with karate, whether to change the dojo or the sensei. I feel dissatisfaction. What do you recommend me? Please advise.

    Thanks.

if the sensei may be the problem then just changing dojos may be enough for you. You are doing a good style. At least stay in the same family
