Default Want to move to Japan

Hi, I am a 23 year old video tech student who will graduate soon. I want to move to japan but am wondering if there are any jobs in the video/tv/film industry there. The market is kind of flooded here, and I have always wanted to live in Japan. If any one knows of a place where foreigners can get a job in this industry, let me know please. And if not, do you need a teaching degree to be an ALT in japan?

You need an undergraduate BA degree so that immigration in Japan can process your visa. Employer acts as your sponsor. Teaching degree not needed.

Not to fan the flames of ignorance, but if it were not for foreigners, you would not be on this website. Thank you

Any BA will do. Major is unimportant for teaching jobs. In the vast majority of cases, an Associates degree will not cut it, no.

I doubt you need much experience--can you swab a deck?
I think it's true and that's good enough for me.

Been answered many times before.....often by me....

    portfolio/ connections/ experience/ connections/ skills/ connections/ language/ connections.....

Newbies not really wanted, can get them locally; skilled experienced techs have the best chance, living locally with a status of residence that permits work, language skills preferred....

    And did I mention connections?

If the immigration need a BA for the visa, then what is this about then?

That just says graduated from college or university. Am I missing something else?

Not really. depending on the country you come from college can mean high school, junior college, a trade school or a university.

There have been reported cases of people with a two year degree getting visas but this is very rare. In MOST cases, a three year or a four year undergraduate degree is needed. Only immigration knows what their guidelines are, all you will get here is helpful advice. We dont issue visas, immigration does.

Do you or will you have an undergraduate Bachelors degree? If you are from the US and go to a technical or trade school you may not qualify for a work visa with only a 2-year diploma.

Check with the embassy or consulate re. their requirements.

PS your chances of getting a job in the video industry without being able to speak Japanese are approximately ZERO.

    Default yea, well...

I will have have an associates in arts in may of next year. I needed to know if I need to get my BA before I head that way. The embassy's website said just a college degree. Im planning to learn japanese before I get there.

Im not immigration and cant tell you 100%. I have seen people with AAs and diplomas say they got visas but these cant be confirmed one way or the other. As you say, immigration and the embassy (who have final say on the matter) will tell you if you qualify.

You need to find a sponsor for your visa, which means finding an employer willing to hire you and sponsor your visa. You cant apply for a work visa without a sponsor, anyway. If you are in the US that means going through one of the big language schools such as NOVA or AEON and getting them to hire you on what you have.

Whatever Japanese you learn before you come is better than nothing but likely not enough to get anything outside a job in language teaching. Japanese ability is not needed to get a job as a language instructor as you are paid to speak and teach English.

As was mentioned, you lack not only a university degree, but practical work experience, useful contacts and have little to offer people except a freshly minted degree and native English ability . In other words, the same as thousands of other new arrivals in this country. This is not to rain on your parade but simple reality.

You need to get here first, develop proper work experience, develop contacts and connections and work on your Japanese ability which will take several years of full time and concentrated study. Then you will start to see things happen but in my experience it will take you up to 5 years of working here to make real progress. I dont need to remind that almost noone outside language teaching speaks English and you will be functionally illiterate in japan without decent Japanese language skills, and basically useless to the average employer.
