    Default cable/satellite

    Hello, all --

After a month home, I've decided I can no longer watch Japanese tv. I'm worried I'm going to start emulating the NHK woman (the Japan, the North Korea, etc.). Perhaps my reaction is more acute having just returned but...I really think I need cable or satellite. Admittedly, many of the news channels covered the Anna Nicole Smith saga while I was home (like I could be any more disinterested...), but there was also the other more important stuff.

The situation is so severe that I'm even willing to pay the NHK fee...

So, anyone have any idea about current pricing/offers? I use OCN for Internet. Not sure if they have bundle packages, etc. Of course, I could call them - and may do just that - but I thought I'd ask for your experiences first.

Movies would be nice, but I'm far more interested in news/current events (CNN, MSNBC, FOX, etc.). Not sure how much longer I'll be here, but if I want to leave Japan with my articles intact, I think more exposure to non-Japanese tv would be good. (Yes, I know - I have no right to criticize since I've "mastered" but one language...and even that's slipping). I guess one can only take so many years of variety shows, watching people have orgasms from food, etc. It's taken its toll...

Please tell me what you use (cable/satellite), the company, how you like it, the cost, etc. Not sure it makes a difference, but I'd be particularly interested in hearing from people living in this area (Nagoya).

    Much appreciated --

Are you even wired for cable? If so, you could get a cable TV/Internet package. If not, go Sky Perfect for TV.
I think it's true and that's good enough for me.

Hmmm....how would one find out? I can't imagine that I'm not. I suppose I could ask Nissho (the company who owns/manages this building). Is being "wired for cable" so unusual? Is it uncommon? So many questions...

Sky Perfect -- this is satellite? I would guess satellite is more expensive than cable...I could be wrong. I guess that's why I'm asking.

OK, thank you. More thoughts please...

Yes. Person is wired for cable.

If memory serves, she gets wired by as much cable as is available.

    Welcome back tootles!

I will happily wire your fusebox on Tuesday if you splice my cable today.......

Thank you for the link. I just looked at it briefly.

It looks...costly and difficult. Not the monthly fees (though I'm guessing NHK would be wanting their fees paid if they saw the dish...), but the equipment.

How much does that stuff cost? Any idea? Where do you get a satellite dish? Can they install it? I can't fathom being able to manage that myself (though, all things considered, I am rather handy!).

Hummm....perhaps Kurogane will hop a plane and help me...

Well, when I was in Japan, I stayed with my basic cable, and I got all the live porn I could handle.

It seems that the Danish Canadian standard size cable has a somewhat higher transmission capacity than the standard issue domestic cable.

Great. Now Highvoltage is gonna ride me like a supermarket coin horsey..................

Yes, this would also be a consideration...though I already looked under Adult Programming Would only do it if it wasn't Japanese porn (so sad)

Bacon? Good thing I'm not dating the Muslim boy anymore. He'd probably realize something was up...the scent and all

NOW...back on topic.....(I'm thinking you're not getting much in Canada, my friend; can understand it though -- just being in WI was cold enough. How do people survive further north?!!)

??? See, I've lost my ability to differentiate. Just one more reason I need non-Japanese tv.

Thanks for the link. I only see info. about Internet service though. I'll just give them a call since that's who I use now for Internet.

    Thanks --

First of all, it's not not much. It's nuttin'.

    Nuttin'!!!!!!!!!!

As for the Wisconsin thing, my condolences, and I'm further west, but probably not much north.

And survive is all one does in Ontario anyways.

    Good luck with the TV.

Nuttin'?!?!?! My goodness...and I thought one month without was bad. Thank goodness I'm meeting my friend tomorrow; a girl can only hold out for so long

As for WI - you tellin' me! No civilized people live further than "the city" (Chicago, of course!!!). Go West...hardly! Nothing past the Mississippi

Not sure it's good to be back here but...maybe with cable/satellite service I'll be happier (nice attempt to get back on topic, eh?)

CABLE -- SATELLITE -- SHARE YOUR WISDOM PLEASE!!!!! I can only watch home shopping for so long

Yup. Nuttin. GF's in Kyoto. Cheating seems so juvenile.

Okay, nibbles, May your receptors splice seamlessly with his high capacity cable.

Good to have you back, btw, you nut.
