    Default Skiing in Japan

If anyone can give me any advice at all about skiing in Japan, relatively close to Osaka, would be most appreciated... Want to know where to go for my weekends in Jan/Feb.

Also planning a longer ski trip end Dec/New Years with family flying over. Is anywhere in West Japan decent for skiing that early in the season??

    Thanks!

Hokkaido is a long way from Osaka

There are ski fields in Shiga and the northern parts of Kyoto Prefecture towards the Japan Sea.

Not sure of name of the place (Biwa-ko Valley?)

If you want to ski, I mean really ski, pay the extra money and go to Red Mountain, BC, The Great White North.

Nagano is a six hour bus trip though you get get there in 3-4 hours from Kyoto by train (one hour to Nagoya and then 2-3 hours through the Kii valley, the scenery is worth the price of a ticket.

Thanks that's really helpful, we are also staying ni Kyoto for a few days and I hadn't considered giong from Kyoto straight to Nagano.

I know there is either an overnight bus option or shinkansen plus local train option.

Where you refer to the scenery being beautiful, is that only on the journey from KYOTO or would that also be from Osaka? I'm guessing though if we took shinkansen from Osaka it would go via Kyoto so would be the same trip...

yep i've actually been checking out the snowjapan sight in great detail, but the link you gave was for a job advertisement based in Hokkaido - rather than any general info on ski regions! but tis cool, had already looked around that sight a fair bit.
