Thread: What are you listening to?

Default What are you listening to?

I am setting this thread up to rival the coarser, lazier, vulgar Americanist street vernacular "Whatcha listening to?" thread.

Over there, they can continue to discuss the latest "gangsta rap" and "skiffle" to their hearts` content. Here though, we shall discuss real music, not that fucking awful garbage that passes for in some quarters. Here we will discuss music of class, music of substance, music of virtue. Music as the highest possible expression of humanity. Music as art. Music as beauty. Music as the breath of God.

There, they can continue to adumbrate the cacophonous soundtracks of their meaningless, artless lives as they stumble through their never-ending Japanese nights of eikaiwa drudgery, conbini hamburgers, lager in the park and grunts on mouldy futons.

OK, I shall kick things off - at the moment I am listening to the Arctic Monkeys`s new one. Pretty good. They is all dressed as clowns for the video to Flourescent Adolescent. Check it out:

    "Sherry" by SADS.

One of their songs that's often looked over (probably cuz it isn't punk, sounds more like classic rock at some parts).

I love this song, the video isn't exciting but it's kinda simple and beautiful.

    Watch it, dammit!

I, by the way, am rather enjoying some Kapsperger, played by Paul Odette. The man has a way with arppeggiation.

Hey I'm new here, and thought this looked like a cool thread for my first post.

Right now I'm listening to AMe one. www.ameone.com/music and after this is finished I'm gonna listen to some Miles Davis.

The new Mars Volta album, The Bedlam of Goliath.

The Mars Volta are pretty hard to get into and even I find them a bit much sometimes, but after a week of solid listening, I think this is the overall best album they've ever done.

Nouvelle Vague, 'Fade To Grey', closely followed by Chet Baker's 'Stella By Starlight'.

This morning, I found the tabs to 'Wicked Little Town' and have been letting my inner melancholic drag queen out for a wander...

Hank Williams, by all means---(not the one with all the rowdy friends, but his old man)

Actually, I hated C&W when I was growing up, but miss it, now.

Don't get it twisted man. "Gangsta Rap" is just a sub-genre of Hip-Hop. There are tons of good Hip-Hop...peep some Black Star, Common, Atmosphere...the list goes on and on.

Right now though I'm digging some Nujabes

    Default Breakfast in bed

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GYX41vH8pTQ

By a brilliant band, UB40, who transmuted the spirit of reggae from Kingston Jamaica to Birmingham England, for so long. Lead vocals are female, unusuallly for the group and by Chrissie Hynde - powerful and sweet.
