Default what's old is new... or just old...anyway, it's good

just slipped on bob dylan's "time out of mind" on as a workday soundtrack. DAMN! forgot how good that is--that and "love and theft"... a hearty "osusume"!!!

Right now I'm listening to an Aussie band... Silverchair. Pure Massacre and Tomorrow are my favourite 2 tunes, so I play them a bit.

    Default Anyone fancy a drink?

And the waitress is practicing mothering, as the ALT slowly gets stoned. Yes he's sharing a drink he calls loneliness, but it's better than drinking alone.

    The Judas Kiss - Metallica
from the new album Death Magnetic
and after that all the rest of the new songs on the album

Im trying to work out if Metallica are back (after the total abortions of Load and Reload and whatever the f*ck) and have seen some reviewers going a bit crazy ("better than the Black album!"). We shall see.

    Lucinda Williams

    Little Honey

Once again an excellent mix of country, rock and blues.

Check out a couple of lines from the lyrics of this duet with Elvis Costello, Jailhouse Tears.

    I went to the corner
To get a cold six pack
    You're a drunk you're a stoner
    You never came back.

I used to be a user
But now I'm all out of stuff
    You're a 3 time loser
    You're all fvcked up

I'll prove it to you somehow
    I'm done with every bit
Look at me, I'm clean now

    You're so full of sh!t

Elvis Costello isn't with her but here she is singing the song

If you don't like it, you don't have to. To each his own.

Thanks for the The Main Ingredient link, nice to hear that one again. I still have Chicago Transit Authority, the first album and never tire of it but the later stuff with Peter Cetera in charge is soooo boring. Can't remember anything Billy Joel did after Piano Man and Say Goodbye to Hollywood.

Don't get it twisted man. "Gangsta Rap" is just a sub-genre of Hip-Hop. There are tons of good Hip-Hop...peep some Black Star, Common, Atmosphere...the list goes on and on.

I'd give my left nut to be able to play this song this way this guy does--I thought it was Doc Watson, but now not so sure. He's obviously a pro and has the voice to match.

it's thelonius monk jamming solo piano on "thelonius himself." a big recommendation: as you can really hear the process of a man interacting with and discovering music on the fly, especially in the bonus track, an "in progress" version of 'round midnight... man, if this doesn't get me in the mood for my gig tomorrow night (at yoidore hakushaku in kannai), nothing will! later, got a shinkansen to catch after this...

Great link Super. Thoroughly enjoyed that one.

By the way, if you are interested, I wouldn't mind your opinion on the youtube poster Fretkiller (the link I posted). His versatility in voice matches his fingerpicking prowess. But I am doubtful that that is his actual voice. I mean, who is this guy--Ry Cooder? Anyway, if you're interested, give a listen to his other arrangements and tell me if you think he is the one actually singing.

Ostensibly speaking, a lot of decent chops players can listen to a recording over and over and master the arrangements. When I was young, single and actually had time on my hands, I sat down with a Keb Mo video and spent hours on one song and got it down somewhat. Sign of a misspent youth. But this guy seems like a pro who must be able to make a living at it.

    thanks again.

edit: the comments in his postings are pretty much in line with "wow..what the ____ are you on--you are a ____ing genius"

I've been listening to the same song developing in my head over and over and over. Tweaking it a little each time. Kinda sounds like something between "Just What I Needed"

    and "Suite Judy Blue Eyes."

I've been thoroughly addicted to the Japanese band 9mm Parabellum Bullet. They're touring around, but all the concerts around me sold out within two days of being available. :-( I'd say they sound a little bit like The Fall of Troy, if that helps. Dunno how I'd classify it - sorta like mathcore / melodic metal / punk?

I've been reading comments that he is the best player on the net. I can't beg to differ yet.
