I'm begining to have a very unhealthy obsession with Dolly Parton.

I think she's smoking hot. omg.
and her voice,is so intense. I love their album, i dont really listen to much mainstream anymore, but this, to me, is a real winner.
It unites people from all genres.
    p.s. im jealous.

    Something different indeed.

The song in this thread reminded me of the Path of Wind (...or the original, here)

    Utada Hikaru - hayatochi remix
I first listened to this in i think it was 2001 maybe 2002, my friend from school had just gotten back from japan and lent it to me... my obsession with japan grew exponentially. I know she's not really exactly what people think of when they think of japan, but she got me really really interested.
I remember seeing the booklet inside the cover and all the hiragana/katakan and kanji and how pretty the booklet was, i was fascinated.. it was all so different...and exciting.
And listening to her sing in a mixture of english and japanese for the first time was really interesting.. i loved it.
    thanks hikki.
    *blush*

I like this one better i think.

I don't think you need to blush. She has a great voice. I remember her from the Evangelion movies (o god, I just admitted I watch anime....)

    Here's another artist I LOVE!!

She's really cute, and has a nice voice.

    LOL gotcha.

If everyone was honest about what really got them interested in Japan, I expect the answers could be quite revealing and/or embarrassing!!

Oh well, initially my grandfather got me interested, and it was sort of always a language that was available at whatever school i went to. So there was definately that interest to begin with, but i was about 14 or 15 and that that cd kind of was like,oh wow, this is amazing i have to go there one day, i suppose, it helped solidify the idea in my mind..

Better than a home made morning shotto
and you have to see me driving with that blasted from the speakers.

I learned they played for 10 years on the roads, daily travel/night performances.
In Joel O'Keefe words (citing from memory): 10 years of such a regime either members are completely washed out ready to be thrown away or the group has become a f__ing good one fearing no competitors.

Well, they are afraid of no one.

Wish I could have been there when they opened the Stones show during their last tour in Australia.
