Nintendo DS- a waste of money?

Thinking about getting one...Anyone like it? Are the games good? Can you play American region games and Japanese games on it?

I got one last year. I like it alright. The games aren't going to be better than a regular console, but can be lots of fun. I use it mostly to practice kanji with the 検定 games. The Japanese selection is way better than the western one. But, I don't think you can play American games on it.

I definetely recommend getting one.

Unlike the Wii, the DS is not region-locked, so you can play both English and Japanese games on it.

There is a large selection of games, mostly due to the fact the DS has been out for long time, now. Do a little research, read some reviews and I'm sure you'll find some fun games (puzzle, RPG, shooter, race, SIM, etc).

You'll find the time on the train goes by a lot faster if you have one!

I have a DS which I bought on a whim. I only have one game. New Super Mario Bros. Honestly, I am not a game person but that alone was worth the price of the DS. It's really cute, really fun, and all the little worlds are cool.

OP - If you buy one of these bad boys, you won't be disappointed and worrying whether you wasted your money. A psp is a good investment, hands down. Also, make sure to mod it.

Ha yeah I couldn't resist. But the real reason why the psp is a bad boy is because of how versatile it is. The sheer amount of features it has is incredible.

I bought my wife (gf at the time) a DS for her birthday...a couple months later I had to buy one for myself. We both live it...and we both have R4s (google it).

The learning carts are great, whether its to learn English or Japanese. It also has a dictionary cart which is nice to have, though I still use my stand alone electronic dictionary cause I don't like interrupting my gaming to look up a word. (=

DS also has some good homebrew out also. It is also MUCH easier to "crack" than a PSP (re: R4 as mentioned above).

My number one game on the DS shelflife-wise is Zoo Keeper, that puzzle game is like smoking crack except you can still wipe your ___ afterwards.

DSs are crap. I bought mine about half a year ago and have played it about 3 times. It is currently occupying space in my bottom drawer sitting next to a bunch of old pornos. If I could go back in time I would have bought a PSP instead.

Too big, sh!t battery life. Disc-based media on a portable = bad idea. Too expensive when released.

I can play multimedia, browse the net, and watch TV on my phone. Why do I need to spend for a big, sh!t battery life PSP to do all that? Plus the game selection on the DS pummels the PSP into a little pile. Plus the DS has all the GBA library available. What is that, 2000 games? 3000?

You can't go wrong with the DS.

Chalk up another vote for the DS. It's inexpensive, small, light, it has good battery life, and there is a ton of software for it. Given the size of the library, many of the titles are complete crap, but the games aren't region-coded, and there are plenty of winners as well.

I mainly use mine when I'm travelling. I play chess, puzzle games, and simulations. It's not cut out for action games, but it's pretty good for what it is.

DS have the benefit of being portable, meaning that you can play them while riding the train/subway. From what I understand, it also fends off people who want to practice their English on you to a small degree. While I was playing my DS nobody ever tried to speak English with me on the train.

According to dscene.net there are 2303 games out there to be downloaded! Even though 99% are sh1t
