Keith Richards' 600 page autobiography 'Life' was a riveting story, so hard to put down, I finished it in four days.

Among other things, I learnt:

Mick Jagger has a tiny todger.

He was nicknamed, behind his back, by the other Rolling Stones "Brenda", "Her Majesty" and "Madam".

Richards never mainlined heroin in his life.

The hordes of groupies admitted to bassist Bill Wyman's hotel rooms while on tour, likely got not much more than cups of insipid tea from the legendary lothario.

The real story behind the reports of Richards snorting his father's ashes.

I'm currently reading Gabriel Garcia Marquez's 'Love in The Time of Cholera'. Absolutely fantastic read; nearly finished the thing after only starting it this morning.

Recently finished that too, great read. Now Im on to Natsuo Kirino 'One' a great book in itself.

I'm reading a Napoleon Bonaparte biography by the esteemed Frank McLynn (after some shopping around, it seemed to be the best buy without having to spend half an arsehole). Cracking read so far, to which I'd wholly recommend.

I'm in the middle of dozens of books at the moment, though mostly poetical or dramatic works (mention Marlowe and you'll only get a resounding 'eh? wassat?'), so I'll spare you all.

I'm reading 'Matterhorn'.

On one hand I want to read it straight through...
On the other I want it to last as long as possible...
It is awesome.

The only other decent novel I read about the Vietnam war was 'Going after Cacciato' oh..and 'A Prayer for Owen Meany' if that counts..

I am usually disappointed by most new books, but a few weeks ago in several european media there was a big discussion about a book by one of the new generation of american writers... now that Updike, Roth and McCarthy are getting old or already dead. I you can appreciate this kind of literature, I highly recommend

You can also download it from a torrent site, I enjoy listening to good books on my mp3 player while talking long walks. I found listening to audio books a great system. I remember I kept on reading books that I had my doubts about, but hoped they would improve in later chapters. But I find it impossible to keep on listening to books that are simply bad for more than one hour.....
This book was written two years ago and it plays in NY in the near future and describes many developments that are already happening. Which is why there is suddenly a hype about it..

The Kate Atkinson series featuring the detective Jackson Brodie, starting with Case Histories, the most recent book being Started Early, My Dog.
Excellent descriptions of Britain's (England and Scotland) seedy underbelly as well as its redeeming features.

Just finished my second read through of 'The Terror' by Dan Simmons. Horror/Historical Drama hybrid based on Sir John Franklin's 1845 expedition to the Arctic Circle, looking for the infamous Northwest Passage. Completely awesome slow burn to total dread and hopelessness.

Also just read 'Letter to a Christian Nation' by Sam Harris. Currently working through 'End of Faith'.

I'm halfway through an ebook called The Woman Who Threw Stars -- I met the author a few nights ago at the Cohiba bar in Nishiazabu. It's pretty good -- there are company employees who eat their bentos in toilet stalls called nibenzoku... Who knew?

Finished A Clash of Kings and now onto A Storm of Swords. Wishing I could spend A LOT more time on my hobbies and loves...

I'm currently on A Feast For Crows. Unfortunately, after reading the first 3 books in the series I find all the gaping holes in the TV series to be a real letdown.

Yeah, but considering the staggering number of characters and all the complicated and intricately woven plotlines, there's no way in hell to do justice to it. FWIW, my son hasn't read any of the books and he LOVES watching the series and has no trouble following the story.

At the end of GoT, he really loved the scene with Dany and her dragons and said, "Wow, that's really cool! Of course, that's a wyvern and not a dragon, but that's so cool!"
