this is an easy one.
1. download firefox.
2. stop using ie.
or i suppose you could just go to edit>preferences, if youre the obstinate type.
urinal cake got it right, but forgot the last step.
3. Don't let wife use computer
i also forgot the part about suspect pr0n sites changing your homepage for you. this is not the first time that ive heard of this problem, though it is the first time ive heard it blamed on the wife.
I agree with our very wise members. Do not use IE. I stopped using it about 8 years ago. I was using Netscape then quickly switched to Firefox.
But, if you really must know. It is pretty easy:
Go to Tools; then select Internet Options; in the Home Page box type your favorite homepage URL; press Apply and you are done.
But, really advice you use Firefox![]()

As long as your using IE8 there's little reason to auto switch to Firefox. It's not like IE is the plague upon the net like it was when IE6 was the predominant browser.
They both have varying but excellent adherence to language specifications.
They both have the ability to change behavior via add-ons and extensions.
Firefox has a better extension library though so it's possible there's some specific extension a person would use Firefox for which is fine.
On the other hand, IE has better default security settings and some interesting new features which might be worthwhile.
If you're feeling adventurous, I recommend Google Chrome which I've been using for the last few months with rising satisifaction. If nothing else, it has the fastest Javascript engine around which means gmail and any other modern site will be faster.
Actually "use current" would set your start-up page to the one you are currently on. If you know the URL for your old "start-up" page, then the best way is just to type it in.
Regarding browsers, there isn't much different between Firefox 3 and IE 8. In certain tests, IE 8 was proven to be slightly faster than FF 3, but it probably was just a few miliseconds difference. I think now it just comes down to user preference.
OP may consider DLing and installing Spybot S&D,
and tick the three boxes in IE tweaks:
1. Lock Host File as read only
2. Lock IE Start Page
3. Lock IE Control Panel
r@DDDDDDDD???????????? ????
PAY ATTENTION, SONNY!!!!!!!!!!!!
BTW, it's not just age. It's interest. And the lack thereof.
So, where are the "IE tweaks"???
Are they in Spybot, or in the IE program?
I ask because my GF is much more tech savvy than I, and she keeps changing my home page to SMAP.com.
I just do what Schroeder said.
Still, it would make her smile if I can lock it on her.
PS "tweaks!!?????????"![]()

In Spybot, of course, if they were in IE itself I wouldn't have to suggest downloading (DLing) and installing Spybot.
DL from here
http://www.safer-networking.org/en/index.html
update, immunize, full scan for beasts, clean, etc.
Choose "Advanced Mode" from the second tab.
An additional column opens on the left, with "Settings", "Tools" and "Info+Licence"sections.
The IE Tweaks is to be found on position 7 in "Tools"
Hope this helps.
Cool
Glad to have been of some help.
While you are in "Tools" you might want to uncheck unwanted programs in "System Startup", a way to improve boot speed.
The button on the right with the two blue arrows opens a dialogue box to help you decide.
N.B., I wrote uncheck, not delete, this step is to be taken after you have made sure everything runs normal after few reboots.
Call me cynical but I was a bit apprehensive to open this thread being the OP and all.
I had just woken up when I posted this, now obvious, easily solvable problem. Literally two seconds later I did a google search and found the answer, really simple. Coming back a day later and seeing so many replies I though I'd been sussed as an idiot who couldn't do even the simpliest of tasks and expected a bit of an online slagging for being such a computer-ignoramus.
Yep, cynical.
