Thread: Question about prepaid

  1. #1

    Default Question about prepaid

I will be returning to Japan and as I am in the hole 60,000 yen with one of the phone providers, getting another contract will be impossible for at least a few months.

Until then I am considering going prepaid. Will I be able to qualify for a prepaid phone, even though I owe Docomo 60,000 from my cellphone bill? Thanks.

Docomo does not offer prepaid service. You have two choices: AU or Softbank. As long as your visa is for longer than 90 days I don't think you should have a problem. Although, last time I was in Japan I was able to get a prepaid phone with my 90 day visa... But I spoke Japanese to the shopkeepers, which might have made a difference.

    Default i did it

I was in a similar situation. I owe softbank for a bogus 160000\ for 1 month.......I tried negotiating with them but they wouldn't listen so I went to a softbank shop, got a prepaid phone. I guess they don't check whether you have an existing contract or not.
