Or be married in both? So many questions - hope someone can help.

    Thanks in advance!
In Japan you dont need a church wedding to get married. You go to the local city office, hand in the forms in front of witnesses and bingo, you are hitched. You will need forms from the embassy saying you are legally able to marry declaration of unimpediment). Wife will sponsor your spouse visa. Once you get that you can apply for a spouse visa. Even if you go back to the UK you can stay there as long as you come back before visa expires (as well as re-entry permit)

If you want the church wedding you are better off waiting till you finish university and save some money.

Not sure about visa issues for wife in UK but if you are married it could be easier to get a marriage visa there. Once you are married in Japan then there is no need to officially marry again in the UK as the UK recognises overseas marriages.

PS instead of diving into marriage you may consider just visiting each others countries for the next couple of years during vacations and get hitched when you graduate from university.
I'd be a hypocrite if I were being an a$$hole to people who weren't a$$holes first. I'm not.

Ahh, yes. The ole Seven Year Itch. They do know just where to aim, don't they.

It can be so hard to see these sorts of posts, even though they are such a standard on here there really should be a sticky in the forums for them.

My reaction to these are always the same:

the usual guffaw of knowing bravado, followed by a shake of my head at the nappy-wetting Oedipal urges of the 20 year old british male, and then, a sort of watery welling in my eyes. I've never figured out what that last one is all about.

Anyways, do check back in 5 years and keep us informed of how the custody battle goes after she absconds back to Japan with your young son.

Sometimes, the only thing that pleases more than misfortune itself is the misfortune of others.

Good luck, and hope that helps.

    THIS!!!

When you turn 27 yourself, if you married, you will be hating life. If you didn't, you will be enjoying all the women you can that are just turning 20.
PurpleDaisies- try "kimi no shitagi hoshii" if she hesitates, add "okane wo harau yo"

One thing you should know is that, she doesn't turn in to Sailor Moon at 29.

    Trust me on this one.
