Default finding a finance job in Japan

Hi, I was just wondering if anyone knew of any English web sites that specialize in finance jobs in Japan.
(BTW, I don't have any visa or language issues and I've lived in Japan before, though I am in the USA now.)

There aren't a lot of finance type positions available in Tokyo depending on your (for lack of a better word) pedigree. If you have an MBA and went to an Ivy school then you might be ok. Otherwise your options are limited, but not zero.

Among other things you could do:
    1. Offshore sales: Basically you are selling offshore investment packages on commission. If you are aggressive and a good sales person then you can do well by this, but it isn't a very stable job until you build a large base.

    2. FX Sales: Many of the FX firms will hire you to recruit new accounts. This is usually commission based. Again, you will need to build a large aquaintence base to make this worth- while.

    3. Prop Trading: You could trade US equities with Objective Trading. They give you capital, training, and amazing technology. The only downside is that your salary is based on your trading profits. If you don't have much trading experience then you shouldn't count on getting a salary for at least a few months.

Hope this helps. If you need more detail email me: bibulousman69@yahoo.com

    Wonky,

Why don't you try contacting finance related companies in Japan and convince them to hire you. If you try hard enough, you will be able to create a job for yourself, as I believe that about 90% of jobs out there are jobs that are not advertised.

Check Yellow Pages to find those companies (and please don't ask me where to find Yellow Pages, coz if you can't find them, I doubt you can find any descent job).

If you are a woman, there is an organisation in Tokyo for women in finance. You can ask them if there is anything for men.

    Good luck!

Thanks for your replies. Sadly, I am a guy...

BTW I am looking for a back office/settlement job, not sales/trading. My current company does have a small Tokyo office but they don't have any open positions at the moment.

Thanks for the links. I'm wondering if it would be worth it to contact a recruiter...again, I'm not looking for an executive level job or anything.

I know some recruiters try and make you cough up thousands of dollars, so of course I'd want to steer clear of those!

I got an entry level job at a finance company(UK based) in tokyo through a recruiter, so if one data point makes a difference to you, a recruiter may be a good way to go. I think I found her on ______.com. I should mention that it's an IT job, and not actually settlements/trading, etc.

Thanks. How much experience should you have before approaching a recruiter? I"ve had my current job for a little over a year. Before that, my resume is full of unrelated stuff, inluding Nova. I'm gussing that time in Japan will at least look good to them.

depends on the particular company's needs..never hurts to try...but i am guessing you should be in Tokyo (if you are not now) because i met the recruiter one week, and the following week, i went to interview at the company. i have only about 2 years of finance exp (with about 5 years of non-finance exp)

    g'luck
