Transferring money to Australia after I leave

So I'm going home and my final paycheck comes in 6 days after I leave. I've organised with a trustworthy friend to take my Japanese bank card and withdraw the money to send to me. But I want to know the easiest way to send it.

I heard that you can send cash directly to an account through the post office, I was wondering if anyone has ever done this and can comment on the costs or the details needed.

a few months ago I sent cash to a bank account in New Zealand from the Post Office, its called a genkin kawase and from memory the transfer fee is about 2,500 yen but it could be up to 4,000 yen.
