Not sure if this is the right thread for this, but couldn't find a more appropriate place.
I have been thinking about applying for the Mext scholarship for a while now, and have decided that I will go for it next year (turning 33 next September so my time is running out). I have been based out of Japan for about 6 1/5 years and have been building my career as a musician, but I have always had a view to returning to University to do some post-grad work. I hold a Bachelor of Business (Marketing/Management), a Bachelor of Arts (Drama, Journalism, English Lit) and a Bachelor of Contemporary Music (Piano/Saxophone). I am hoping to do research on the effects of Jazz music on post-war Japan. I have downloaded the forms available from the government and have read them, but I am unsure on a couple of points - Do you need to have applied to Japanese Universities before applying for the Mext scholarship, or do you apply after getting the scholarship? - Do you need to find a supervisor before applying, or do you do this after? - Is there a site or an email/phone contact that can help guide you through the process Thank-you in advance. |

i am not sure about applied through embassy. no. University allocate the supervisor depend on you field interest. But if you already know any professor well. then you can contact him personally. that will improve your chance to get the scholarship |

I found a supervisor and thus the university well before applying for MEXT. Actually, as soon as the preliminary correspondence with the professor was finished and I had made my intentions clear, the university's foreign students section did all my paperwork. They express mailed the forms that I needed to sign to Canada. Everything was done very quickly and very smoothly.
Basically, you are more likely to get the scholarship if you have found a supervisor and university than if you are cold-call applying. Less work on the ministry's side and you will have more time to build rapport with your advisor. |

Hello All
I am an applicant for the MEXT scholarship 2010 and a final year student at Medical Uni.... I conducted with the embassy and they explained the application procedure, but when I asked about research plan they told that "it is up to you, there is not limit in the number of words or sheets". My question is, "Is there any accepted structure for the research plan?" Thanks in advance |
