I'm having trouble finding anywhere that's cheap enough for my friends to stay at. They, a couple, are coming to visit for the first week or so of April and have asked me to find them to cheapest possible place to stay, so they can have enough money to actually do things. I've tried looking in English and Japanese and haven't really been able to find anything the equivilent of a "hole in the wall".. so my last resort is to beg upon you kind-hearted potters for help.
Requirements -preferably near Shibuya or easily accessible to Denentoshi-line (in around Mizonokuchi, Musashi Kosugi area would be perfect though) -under 2000/person -2 person room, but if not is fine too -capsul, hostel, anything is fine. -bookable in fairly short notice I'd really appreciate any help =) |

I don't really think anything that cheap exists in Japan... especially not in that area. I don't know how much gaijin houses are and if they would rent a room for such a short period of time but that might be one more thing to check out.
If you live here, couldn't they crash with you? The only thing I can think of that would come close to 2000 yen per person per night would be an internet cafe... they have all-night packages and some even have things like reclining chairs, showers, etc... not quite BEDS I think, but better places to sleep than others. Some homeless people etc "live" in net cafes, my husband has spent a couple nights there when he missed the train. The downside would be... they need an address to put on their immigration cards when they come. If for whatever reason you have an address, and don't want to let them crash, they could do that... put down your address for immigration and then sleep at the net cafe. Also, they would only be renting it out on a day-by-day basis every NIGHT... during the day they would have to keep their things somewhere, so that means packing light, and an extra 300 yen or so per day for an oversized locker in Shibuya station or wherever. |

Hmm... yea I wasn't able to find anything either. Just hoping I might have missed something, you know? I'd love to let them crash here, but they're actually coming for our wedding, and we'll already have my parents with us in our 1 room apt... =/ Thanks though! I think they might have too much stuff for a net cafe too.
Does anyone know anything about hostels then? Are they usually pretty booked up fast or..? |

Your friends are asking for a miracle, and even many the ones in the 3,000 or slightly under range are filled up/partially filled up for the first week of April.
Most of the cheaper ones are in or around Asakusa, and the running rate for those are usually 2,500-3,500 yen a person. If it's anything near Shibuya it's likely be almost double that because of the location. I stayed in one called JUYOH HOTEL near Asakusa before my apartment move-in date for a week and I'd recommend them. They had free internet and a T.V. downstairs; the T.V. had multiple channels and many in English. There was a convenience store, a coin laundry, and a post office nearby, and the staff was very friendly. They also are willing to take you out on tours; I didn't go on any, but they weren't too expensive from the ads they had up. Only downer was shared bathroom/showering facilities, but they weren't dirty like some of the experiences I've encountered living in college dorms. One good part about their homepage reservation is that you can easily cancel it without penalties as long as it's a certain number of hours in advance. Almost all capsule hotels don't allow women, so that option is out unless your friends are guys. Last edited by mizutama : 2009-03-07 at 02:10 PM. |

Hotel New Koyo, Minami-senju is actually not bad. 2,500/person/night.
http://www.newkoyo.com/ Also here is a handy list of hotels in the 1,000 to 3,000 yen/person/night range. http://translate.google.com/translat...r%26bs%3Dsmall
