I am moving to Japan next month and would like to set-up a high-speed Internet connection for my apartment. Regarding this, :
1. What is a good company to get the Internet connection from? (A friend previously recommended Docomo, is this ok?) 2. How much will it cost per month? 3. What are the specific download speeds of the connection? (I am a download and torrent-heavy guy) Thank you in advance! |

Docomo is a telephone service provider 2. Bflets runs about3,500 per month but you need a service provider, I use OCN which I think is cheap, but good. 3. I download a lot and the speeds are not bad. But a lot depends on your having everything set up right (open ports etc.) Take some time and search through this forum and you'll get a better idea. Read everything about ISP's that you find.

If your apartment already have b-flets NTT (mansion type) installed then that is the best way to get good speed and cost.
Theoritically 100mbs but practically much less, I get about 35Mbs which is more than enough. I pay ashi-net (ISP) 4400yen total per month including IP-phone service and equipement rental. The b-flets home is expensive but the speed will be great ADSL is another option but if you live away from the NTT exchange center, the speed could be very low. ADSL costs vary by provider and phone system, anywhere between 2500 up. see http://asahi-net.jp/en/ http://bb.excite.co.jp |
