Hello everyone,,
I am not a Japanese and working in Japan as a civil engineer I would like to join an engineering graduate school (full time master prog). I've found some schools where I can take the courses by English (e.g: Tokyo Institute of Technology). I already contacted them and they offered two choices: 1- to apply as I am out of Japan but I have to find an academic advisor first from the desired department who accept to be my advisor. 2- to take the entrance exam as a Japanese students. The first choice seems good for me but I tried to send emails to most profs. in the civil dept. but I got no replay. - DO anyone have an idea about how to find an academic advisor? (OR) do you know what's the right way to make them accept to be my advs? Also, what does the entrance exam look like? Is it easy or not? Is it common for all the Japanese University? Is there any school where I can enroll without exams? btw, I am looking for self-funded not scholarship in Oct. 2009 term. Thank you for your help in advance |

Dear brother you can find many other Universities like Saitama and tsukuba Universities http://www.saitama-u.ac.jp/kokusai/english/ http://www.tsukuba.ac.jp/english/ I think this year you cannot start as almost in all universities the admissions are over but except few like Tohoku Univ. where you can still check for admission. I think this can be a reason of the no reply from the prof. ..... you should try after few month.... and its better to meet in person The good way to make your prof agree is to find a good area of research ... check the research areas of prof on net before meeting with or writing to him. With out exam i dont think ..it may be possible in private universities but .... I dont know much about it... I think good universities always require the entrance exam .... it is not soo difficult ..... three parts English, Maths and Physics 4 hours duration first 1 hour for English .... very easy .... then break of 1 hour and then 2 hours for the reaining two. 1 month prepration will be good for the exam. For self funded students there is a possibility of fee waiver/waivers and at a rough you will require approx 150000 for one time (if fee waived) I am also not a Japanese but I can feel your desires .. you can ask anything you want ... I will try my best to tell you the details ... today after reading your mail I called one of my friend who got admission after exam and after 10 minutes phone call i got these info for you .... I hope it can solve your problem Good by and best of Luck

Just curious, you dont say how good your Japanese is. You said you can do some courses in English but its unlikely you can do the whole degree without knowing japanese. At a minimum you will need to pass the Japanese Language proficiency exam Level 1 or 2, and ALL universities have an entrance exam either for japanese or foreign students. I dont know about TIOT but most universities publish a book of previous exam questions and are sold in bookstores. |

there are some institutes which are liberal in this regard,e.g -Nara's NAIST.,Tokyo's SOKENDAI
where fee is at par with national universities. if u have publications of repute,it becomes easy. Pakistan,China ,and India also have some good programs in ENGINEERING. Quote:
