  • a friend runs a company, can he sponsour my work visa?

A friend runs a company in japan, importing/exporting food.
I dont have a BA, and he says he will sponsour my work visa..
offically I'd be doing office work.

    is that possible?

Short answer based on the limited information given is no.

Longer answer, he might be able to sponsor a work visa (don't know his tax status, which immigration will ask for), but you are not eligible for a work visa if you lack a degree, unless you have many years of related work experience.

Well, in terms of work, its simply calling up foreingers in english and asking them whats going on, and writing up emails etc in english... I've been told I dont need a degree by someone.

But can your friend show that he can't find a Japanese person to do the job? If the answer to that question is no, then what's the justification for importing someone?

Well considering most Japanese have bad engrish and the ones who actually speak English probably have better jobs elsewhere, perhaps he can't find a Japanese person to do the job.

It doesn't matter. Sounds like you would have to apply for a Specialist in Humanities/ International Relations work visa, and that requires a degree. As I wrote above, the only time you don't need one for that work visa is if you can prove at least 3 years of previous related experience.

The usual visa requirement is either a BA or 10 years of job-related experience and training. But it's worht a try He should write up a job offer for you and you should write a CV that fits that job perfectly.

Why speculate? Just trundle down to the local immigration joint and ask. If it's too far, give 'em a call.
